Nissan and Habitat for Humanity Deepen Partnership

Nissan has always been committed to helping build sustainable communities, and since 2005, they've partnered with Habitat for Humanity International, logging more well over 50,000 hours building homes with the non-profit. They don't just volunteer their employees in this community action, they've also donated vehicles and funding to support Habitat for Humanity's efforts in rebuilding storm-damaged communities like Post-Katrina New Orleans. And, last week, Nissan announced another $2.5-million contribution to support the organization.

As a part of the donation, Nissan plans to invite all stakeholders to participate in the partnership and all point-of-sale materials in dealerships will promote the effort. Even consumers will be encouraged to join in, as Nissanusa.com will invite them to click through to the Habitat for Humanity website, where they'll have the opportunity to donate their time or money.

Bill Krueger, Vice Chairman, Nissan Americas, explains why Nissan and Habitat make such excellent partners for each other, "Our relationship with Habitat will lead to new opportunities for Nissan owners and our dealer partners to get involved in future Habitat builds." He goes on to explain that part of Nissan's core values is their commitment to the environment and the communities filled with Nissan customers, dealers and employees, and "collaborating with Habitat allows us to carry out these priorities in a tangible, meaningful way."1

Above all, the two organizations share an invaluable common goal: building affordable, sustainable housing in collaboration with families that need homes. And this renewed commitment further builds upon past efforts, which have included the donation of 50 Nissan Titan trucks to help in the hurricane relief efforts in the Gulf Coast, funding of the annual Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter Work Project in Haiti, and the Nissan employees who have rallied together to build over 30 "green-living" homes across the United States in the last five years. Nissan's collaborative efforts have also helped to build 15 homes in Haiti.

This is just a small part of Nissan's Green Program, an ongoing effort to reduce the company's impact on the environment. Needless to say, John Howard Nissan, located at 1730 Mileground Morgantown, WV 26505, is mighty proud to be able to be a part of this effort, as well.
